   MAHER ANTHONY COLLECTION

The above scanned copy of an original document, permits the bearer to attend the First Sitting of Dáil Éireann in the Mansion House, on the 9th May 1919.The historical significance of this document is that it is signed by the great Irish patriot Terence McSweeney, Lord Mayor of Cork, & a member of the first Dáil who sadly died on Hunger Strike.

We are delighted to announce that in the very near future, we will be updating the website with many documents and pictures of historical relevance to the town of Templemore. Gathered by the Maher Anthony Family over the last two centuries, they provide an invaluable window on the heritage and history of Templemore

We are extremely grateful to Mrs Betty Maher Anthony and her family for making these invaluable documents available to us. They are indeed a source of pride & joy to Templemore people all over the world, and hopefully will bring back memories of an age gone by.

       Seachtain na Gaeilge

                                        IRISH LANGUAGE WEEK

3ú -17ú Márta 2007
3rd - 17th March 200

Ag cur Labhairt na Gaeilge chun cinn
Promoting the Irish language

Iarrtar ar thuismitheoirí trasna Thiobraid Árann Thuaidh agus An Teampall Mór, sampla praicticiúil a thabhairt dá gcuid páistí trí níos mó Gaeilge a labhairt sa bhaile thar Sheachtain na Gaeilge.

Parents across Tipperary North and Templemore are asked to give practical example to their children by speaking more Irish at home over Seachtain na Gaeilge.

Is gné thábhachtach in athbheochan na Gaeilge é do chuid páistí agus do chuid gaolta a spreagadh chun an teanga a labhairt níos minicí.

Motivating your child and relations  to speak Irish more often is an important aspect in the revival of the Irish language.

Tacaíonn muintir na tíre leis an teanga. Tá an Ghaeilge beo beathach. Tá sí ag fás an t-am ar fad. Tá sí thart timpeall orainn i saol na hÉireann agus i saol an bhaile seo sa lá atá inniu ann.

The Irish people support the language. The Irish language is alive and well. It is growing all the time. It is around us in Irish life and in the life of this town today.

Is féidir le daoine an teanga a phiocadh suas trí í a fhoilsiú, a léamh, a scríobh nó a labhairt.   Thairis sin, is mór an chabhair é a bheith ag éisteacht le RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta agus TG4 ar bhonn leanúnach.

People can preserve the Irish language by publishing it, reading it, writing it and speaking it.   Besides that, it is important to listen regularly to programmes on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta and TG4 to keep the language alive in our lives.

                                       JOE CONNORS
                                            MEMORIAL

A fitting tribute  has been erected at Main Street, to the late Joe Connors RIP, by his former workmates on North Tipperary County Council. The beautiful piece of street furniture is crafted from cast iron and teak, and would have brought pleasure to the late Joe, who was often seen around his native town, sitting on the Mall Bridge, or other under the Town Hall, discussing life with the locals. The Weeping Willow in the background was nurtured and supported by Joe after it was damaged by a truck some years ago.
