Swine Flu – Diocesan Guidelines:

On the advice of the HSE, regarding the Pandemic H1 N1 Influenza, (Swine Flu), Archbishop Clifford has issued the following guidelines:

1.      People & Priests should not attend Mass if they feel ill with influenza like symptoms for seven days.

2.      While the pandemic threatens, it is advisable to consider receiving Holy Communion by hand rather than on the tongue, This would lessen the risk of spreading the virus.

3.      Shaking hands at the sign of Peace should be temporarily suspended.

These measures are temporary in nature and will remain only while Influenza Pandemic lasts.

Jos. 24:1-2; 15-18       As the Israelites prepared to enter the ‘Promised Land’, Joshua challenged them on their commitment to the living God. We renew our commitment to the same living God who leads us to eternal life.

Ep. 5: 21-32    This passage may seem dated; but its core teaching is still true today. The faithful love of Christ for His Body, the Church, should be seen in the genuine love between husband and wife in the sacrament of marriage.

Jn. 6:60-69       For some the teaching of Jesus is ‘intolerable language’ and they refuse to accept it. When we allow ourselves to be guided by the Holy Spirit we accept in faith, that only in Jesus are found the words of eternal life.

Child Protection Policy

Earlier this year the Archdiocese of Cashel & Emly established a Diocesan Child Protection Policy, (a copy is available on request). The Parish of Templemore, Clonmore and Killea has established its own Child Protection Policy recently in line with the Diocesan Policy, and it is also available for inspection at any time in our church sacristy.

Displayed on the notice Board of each church is a summary of the parish policy, plus important contact names and telephone numbers if anyone has Child Protection concerns in relation to any member of Church Personnel in this Parish or Archdiocese.

The Archdiocese of Cashel & Emly and the Parish of Templemore, Clonmore and Killea recognise the dignity and the rights of all children and are committed to their protection and welfare.  We also value and encourage the participation of children and young people in parish liturgies and in activities that enhance their spiritual, physical, emotional and social development.

Jubilee Year of the Priest (June 19th ’09 – June 19th 2010)
Pope Benedict XVI has declared this year a year of the Priest in an effort to (a) encourage ‘spiritual perfection’ of the Church’s priests upon which the effectiveness of their ministry principally depends and (b) to mark the 150th anniversary of the death of St. John Vianney, the Curĕ of Ars, who represents a ‘true example of a priest at the service of the flock of Christ.
St John Vianney was a humble man, yet as a priest he was conscious of being an immense gift to his people:  “A good shepherd a pastor after God’s heart, is the greatest treasure which the good Lord can grant to a parish and one of the most precious gifts of divine mercy.   The priest is not a priest for himself, he is a priest for you”.
St John Vianney also taught his parishioners primarily by the witness of his life.   It was from his example that they learned to pray, halting frequently before the tabernacle for a visit to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.   “One need not say much to pray well.  We know that Jesus is there in the tabernacle:  let us open our hearts to him, let us rejoice in his sacred presence.   That is the best prayer.

Jubilee Year of the Priest:
(June 19th 09 – June 19th 2010 )  Pope Benedict XVI has declared this year a year of the priest in an effort to (a) encourage ‘spiritual perfection’ of the Church’s priests upon which the effectiveness of their ministry principally depends and (b) to mark the 150th anniversary of the death of St John Vianney, the Curé of Ars, who represents a ‘true example of a priest at the service of the flock of Christ’.  “The centrality of Christ leads to a correct valuation of priestly ministry, without which there would be no Eucharist, no mission, not even the Church.   Priests must also be ‘present identifiable and recognizable for their judgment of faith, their personal virtues and their attire-in the fields of culture and charity which has always been at the heart of the church’s mission.”  Pray for your priests.
A Prayer for Priests :
You came from among us to be, for us, one who serves.  We thank you for ministering Christ to us and helping us minister Christ to each other.  We are grateful for the many gifts you bring to our community:  for drawing us together in worship, for visiting us in our homes, for comforting us in sickness, for showing us compassion, for blessing our marriage, for baptising our children, for confirming us in our calling, for supporting us in bereavement, for helping us grow in faith, for encouraging us to take the initiative, for helping the whole community realize God’s presence among us.   For our part, we pray that we may always be attentive to your needs and never take you for granted.  You, like us, need friendship and love, welcome and a sense of belonging, kind words and acts of thoughtfulness.   God our Father, we ask you to bless our Priests and confirm them in their calling.  Give them the gifts they need to respond with generosity and a joyful heart.  We offer this prayer for our priest, who is our brother and friend.  Amen

Acts 10: 25-26  The Gospel message is universal and is available to all.  In Cornelius, we see a gentile who had already come to faith in the God of Abraham and was now ready to come to faith in Christ.

1 Jn. 4: 7-10  It is only in love that we come to know God and therefore it is in living a life of love that we live the life of God as lived by Jesus Christ.

Jn. 15: 9-17  The love of Jesus for his disciples is the same love that God the Father has for Jesus.  If we remain in God’s love we will surely see abundant fruits of love, joy and peace in our own lives and the lives of others.

Parish Centre: One of the ambitions of this parish for many years is to have a  parish centre consisting of parish office, meeting rooms etc.  We are very grateful to the Sisters of Mercy who have made available to the parish the ‘Convent Assembly Hall and Rooms’. Basket Collection last weekend – €1,905.  Shrines - €544.

Acts 4: 8-12  Peter,  who denied Jesus on Good Friday, is the great believer and preacher of the Resurrected Jesus.  His faith would be the rock on which the church would be built.
1 Jn. 3: 1-2  It is important to act and live as children of God on earth, before we see him as he really is, in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Jn. 10: 11-18  The image of the Shepherd is portrayed beautifully throughout the scriptures as the one who cares for each of his flock, who knows them and calls them by name, one who will endanger himself for their protection.  Jesus is our Good Shepherd.

Vocations Prayer

Loving and Generous God, it is You who calls us by name and asks us to follow You.  Help us to grow in the Love and Service of our Church as we experience it today.  Give us the energy and courage of Your Spirit to shape its future.  Grant us faith filled leaders who will embrace Christ’s Mission of love and justice.

Bless the Church of Cashel & Emly by raising up dedicated and generous leaders from our families and friends who will serve Your people as Sisters, Priests, Brothers and Lay Ministers.  Inspire us to know You better and open our hearts to hear Your call.  We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Eucharistic Adoration - In Church of the Sacred Heart, Templemore, every Thursday after 10am mass and concludes with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament at 7.15pm.  Why not make a little time to be in the presence of Jesus each Thursday, to pray for yourself or those who need your prayers at this time.

Pobal Ailbhe:  The recent publication, giving a brief history of each of the 46 parishes of the Diocese, has got very good reviews.  Each parish was given a quota to sell at €30 each, which is the cost price.  We need to sell as many as possible to cover the cost to the parish.  This weekend after all masses, copies will be available at €30.  If you haven’t got the money with you, feel free to take your copy and pay later.  It would be great if a copy was bought for every home in the parish or it would be a nice gift for a family member away from home.

Eucharistic Ministers please collect roster for March in Sacred Heart Church, Templemore.

Do This in Memory Programme

  1.   Lord, may we become ever more conscious of our responsibility as adult believers to give good example to young people in our parish.  May we never forget that they need our prayer and encouragement, and may we always be willing and generous in sharing life with them.  We pray, Lord graciously hear us.

  2.   We also pray for the parents of our parish, especially those who have children preparing for First Holy Communion.  Lord, you teach us that we meet you in our neighbour.  May our public prayer nourish the faith of all in our Community.  We pray, Lord graciously hear us.

Pope’s Intention for February

That Pastors of the Church may always be docile to the action of the Holy Spirit in their teaching and in their service to God’s people.

Readings:

1st Reading (Lv. 13:1-2;44-46)  To be a leper was to be an outcast in the Old Testament.  But Jesus came to make all things new and in him is found welcome and compassion no matter what our faults.

2nd Reading (1 Cor. 10:31-11:1)  When we work and live for the ‘glory of God’, then we will be giving witness to God’s love in us.

Gospel (Mark 1:40-45)  When we allow the love and presence of God into our lives, we will want to share that experience with others and bring the good news of Jesus to them.

Lenten Clergy Collection: The first Clergy Collection for the priests of the Diocese for 2009 will be taken up at all masses next weekend.  The target for this parish is €74,224.  Last year we had a wonderful response from many people and reached the target.  Hopefully, we will do it again this year.  To do so we ask that you be as generous as you can.  A special request to those who do not contribute to consider doing so this year, to help make the burden easier on everyone.  If you did not get collection envelopes, they are available at the back of the churches.

Monday 16th & Tuesday 17th February – Because the priests will be away on Monday and Tuesday at a conference in Dungarvan, there will be no morning mass in Templemore.

Sunday Devotions – No Devotions this Sunday evening in Templemore
